OUR FOUNDER BIRGIT ABOUT THE WEINZEIT
Almost all of us have a big dream. That "one thing" that you absolutely want to do one day. For me, it was the dream of owning my own wine bar. Whilst traveling through Tuscany, the Cape Winelands, the many regions of Austria and along the Napa Valley with my family and friends, this ambition grew stronger.
The world has so many beautiful places, offering wonderful drinks and delectable dishes, which I in turn wanted to bring home and share with others.
And there's no better place to do that than a place where you can relax, chat and enjoy great wine. A place to meet friends, set new goals or just enjoy life. A place that brings home the feeling of being on your favourite holiday.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
ENJOYMENT AND ATMOSPHERE
This wish has finally come true with the Weinzeit Magdeburg. With a lot of care and love, my team and I have selected a wide variety of wines and dishes from different regions to share with you. A special emphasis has been placed on the wineries of South Africa, as this country embraces a strong part of our family history and legacy.
In addition to wines, you will also find bagels for lunch, aromatic coffee, homemade cakes and delicious dishes prepared with fresh, regional and international ingredients.
We look forward to many great hours with lively conversations and full wine glasses. And if everything goes according to plan, you will leave us after an intoxicating evening with a new favorite wine and a few new friends!
THE LOCATION
IN THE HIMMELREICHSTRASSE
When the building was owned by a merchant family in the 19th century, its cellar was used as a wine warehouse. The determination to be transformed into a real wine bar at some point is deeply rooted in the history of the building.
In 1901, however, the building was torn down and a new neo-baroque building was erected at that point, which essentially corresponds to its present-day appearance.
After it functioned as a bank in 1904 and as an arts and crafts house in the 1930s, the Breite Weg was almost completely destroyed by air raids in World War II.
Today our building is one of the few witnesses of the once so beautiful baroque street.
